Fifty eight square miles holding about 793,144 people is the densest arrangement of addresses anywhere in the state, and it changes what a good order looks like. Almost nothing here is a long drive. Almost everything here involves a lobby, a stairwell, a buzzer or a desk between the street and the recipient.
Suffolk County is therefore the one page on this site where the journey is never the problem and the last thirty yards nearly always are. Plan the order around the building rather than the road, and most of the ways a delivery can go wrong here simply disappear.
That argues for compact work in its own water. A boxed design can be set down on a counter and collected later without anyone hunting for a vase. Read the arrangements page by height and container rather than by name, because in a Suffolk County apartment the footprint matters far more than the variety does.
A tied bunch still has its place, mostly at houses and at offices with somebody to receive it. If you know there is a vase at the other end, it is the more generous looking gift. If you do not know, send the one that arrives ready to stand and remove the question altogether.
A street number on its own is rarely enough at a Suffolk County address. A unit number, a floor, a buzzer label that differs from the name on the order, a concierge desk that closes at six: any of those decides whether the first attempt succeeds. The notes field is read before anyone leaves, so use it properly.
Hospital deliveries are the other common case. Boston Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary all take flowers for patients, and all of them need a full name and, where possible, a ward or a room. A first name at a large reception routes nothing.
The postal codes here run from 02108 through the 02110 to 02135 range and on to 02136, with more than fifty in use across three towns. In a place this dense the code is what separates two streets with similar names, and one wrong digit sends a route to the other side of the harbor.
Chelsea and Revere sit north of the water while Boston spreads south and west of it, so the code also decides which side of the crossing a route begins on. That is the single most useful field on the whole form.
Flower types may be substituted for what the florist has on hand, and the utmost care is taken to keep the substitute close to the original in color, height and fullness. The size, shape and value of the arrangement do not change. A tall design stays tall, a dozen stays a dozen, and nobody trades down quietly.
A photo of the finished arrangement is sent at no extra charge once the florist has built it. That is unusual in this trade and it is the reason a substitution stops being a worry: a sender in another state sees the actual piece that went out rather than the stock image that prompted the order.
Birthdays are the largest single category of order into the three towns of Suffolk County, and the date is the only element that cannot be fixed afterward. Set it on the form instead of relying on a same day run, and move a Sunday birthday to the Saturday with a line in the card explaining the early arrival.
Congratulations and thank you orders usually go to a Suffolk County workplace, and a workplace has opening hours. Aim those at the earlier half of the delivery window so that somebody is there to accept them, and choose something compact enough to be carried home on a train at the end of the day.
Orders placed before 1 PM Eastern time are delivered the same business day. That hour belongs to the recipient, so a sender in the central zone is working to noon at their own desk and one on the west coast to 10 AM, which is early enough that the evening before is the better plan.
Flower deliveries run Monday through Saturday between 9 AM and 7 PM, and Sunday delivery is not available anywhere in Massachusetts. A Sunday occasion therefore needs a Saturday arrival. Around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas and Easter the same day line closes earlier, and in a city those are also the slowest days on the road.
An exact hour can be requested and will be passed to the florist, but it cannot be locked in. Between Boston, Chelsea and Revere the distances are short but the traffic is not, and a run out to Revere, MA in the evening rush is nobody's idea of predictable, and a day of margin is worth more than any note on the order.
For a Suffolk County service, name the building in the notes rather than the town, because a city address without a building name is an invitation to a wasted delivery. Standing work should be in place before the family arrives, so aim it at the morning and give the hour of the service if you know it.
Carney Hospital and the care addresses around it are the opposite case. Where somebody is staying for weeks, a low planted piece on a windowsill outlives a cut arrangement several times over and takes nothing from the staff who have to work around it. That is worth more than something larger delivered on the first day.
Because cut flowers do not keep, anything wrong has three days from arrival to be raised with us, after which a replacement, a refund or a partial credit settles the order. Essex County, MA continues up the coast to the north, Middlesex County, MA wraps around to the west, and every other county sits on the Massachusetts delivery index.
