Four hundred and ninety three square miles, eight town pages and about 823,938 people is a lot of variety in one place, and the arrangement that suits a triple decker in Lynn is not the one that suits a house above the harbor at Gloucester. Start with the dimensions rather than the flowers.

Essex County holds more kinds of address than almost any page we build: mill housing, seafront homes, apartment blocks and quiet residential streets, all inside 493 square miles. A design that is right for one of them is frequently wrong for the next, which is why the order notes matter as much as the catalog does.

Eight Towns, River and Coast

The towns split into three natural groups. Haverhill and Lawrence sit up on the river, Salem, Beverly and Peabody hold the middle of the map, and Gloucester with Newburyport marks the coast. Lynn anchors the southern end nearest the city.

The codes across Essex County run from the 01830 group at the northern river, through 01901 and 01905 at the southern harbor, out to 01930 at Gloucester and 01970 at the seat.

Salem is the seat, and Lynn is the closest of the eight towns to the harbor beyond the southern line. The 1 PM Line, Eastern Time

Place the order before 1 PM Eastern time and it is delivered the same business day. The hour belongs to the recipient, so a sender in the central zone is working to noon at home and a sender on the west coast to 10 AM, which is early enough that the evening before is the better plan.

Flower deliveries run Monday through Saturday between 9 AM and 7 PM, and Sunday delivery is not available anywhere in Massachusetts. Anything needed for a Sunday has to land on the Saturday and hold overnight. In the weeks around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas and Easter the same day line closes earlier than it does the rest of the year.

A specific hour can be requested and will be passed to the florist, though it cannot be fixed. On a run from Lawrence, MA out to the coast that is an honest statement about traffic rather than a hedge, and a day of margin removes the question entirely.

Sympathy Flowers, Coast and River

For a service, the building matters more than the town, and the hour matters more than the design. Standing work should be in place before the family arrives, which in practice means a morning slot. Put the name of the venue in the notes, since several of these towns have more than one and the wrong one is a wasted order.

Sent to a household, something low and self contained is kinder. It needs no vase and no attention during a week when nobody has any spare, and it is still alive a fortnight later.
