The cooler a florist works from in the middle of Iowa in January holds less variety than the same cooler in May, and that is the honest reason substitution exists. Where a listed flower has run out, a close equivalent goes in its place. The size of the piece, its shape and its value all stay exactly where the order set them.

Nobody in Iowa is trying to slip a smaller arrangement past a sender. The rule is written down because it is what actually happens at the bench, and a family in Reinbeck opening the door would rather have a full piece built from what was available than a thin one built from a list.

Standing work belongs where the service is held and a smaller vase piece belongs at the house afterwards, and families here often want both on different days. Since Sunday is closed to us, a Monday service has to be supplied on the Saturday, and a Saturday order needs to be placed well before the middle of the day.

Hospital Wards and Workplace Addresses

Orders for Grundy County Memorial Hospital at the seat should carry a ward name, because like every hospital it has units where flowers are not allowed through the door. A call ahead saves an order that has to be redirected on the day. Grundy Care Center and Creekside both want a resident room written on the order.

Oakview Nursing Home at Conrad and Parkview Manor Care Center at Reinbeck work the same way, with a front desk that will hold a piece only if it knows who it belongs to. For a workplace, put the business name on the order as well as the person, because nobody signs for a stranger.

Holiday weeks pull that line earlier. Around Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Christmas and Easter the same day cutoff can move forward and the choice narrows as the week runs on. A Wellsburg or Conrad order in one of those weeks should go in two days ahead rather than on the morning it is wanted.
