Dover is the county seat and the address on a large share of what comes into Kent County, with the hospital, the behavioural health center and half a dozen care homes inside its own ZIP codes. It is not the whole story, though. Smyrna sits at the northern end, Harrington at the southern, and between them are places like Camden, Felton, Clayton and Wyoming that each keep a delivery page of their own. Sixteen towns in all, across 586 square miles of central Delaware.

Sympathy flowers and funeral notices

A sympathy order is the one kind where the details in the notes field matter more than the flowers. Berry Short Funeral Home in Felton, like every other venue in the county, needs to know which service an arrangement belongs to, so the family name as the notice prints it and the hour the service starts should both be on the order. Send to arrive before the service rather than during it. Where a notice asks for donations in place of flowers, a smaller arrangement to the family home two or three weeks later carries further than one more piece on the day itself.

Timing on a sympathy order deserves one more line. The arrangement wants to be at the venue before people arrive rather than during the service, and a florist working across Kent County plans a route rather than a diary of appointments. Ordering the day ahead, with the date chosen at checkout, takes that question out of play entirely.

Same-day orders and the 1 PM line

Orders placed before 1 PM Eastern time reach the recipient the same business day. The zone in that sentence is the recipient's, which for senders on the west coast means ten in the morning at home and a decision made earlier than feels natural. Delivery runs Monday through Saturday, and Sunday delivery is not available, so anything wanted for a Sunday goes out on the Saturday before. Deliveries land between 9 AM and 7 PM. Around Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Christmas and Easter the same-day cutoff can fall earlier than usual, and on those dates a day of notice is worth more than anything else you can do.

The reverse case is worth stating as well. An order placed at two in the afternoon is not refused; it moves to the next working day, and the delivery date at checkout is what the florist covering that part of Kent County works to. Nothing is lost by missing the cutoff except a day.

Substitution and seasonal stock

Flower types may be substituted for what the florist has available, with no change to the size, shape or value of the arrangement. The substitution is inside the design rather than across it: a stem swapped for one of the same color and habit, not a different piece altogether. A photo of the finished arrangement is sent once the florist has made it, at no extra charge, which settles the question of what the recipient actually received without anyone having to ask them.

Birthdays, new baby and thank you flowers

Celebration orders have a fixed date and no good reason to be left late, so setting the delivery date at checkout beats ordering on the morning. For a new baby, the home address after discharge is a safer target than a maternity ward, since the stay is short and rooms change. For a thank you, the workplace is often the better address precisely because it is public. The flowers and gifts pages show what is available, and the card message is written at the same time as the order.

Anniversaries are the one date senders regularly leave until the morning itself. There is no penalty for ordering a fortnight early, the delivery date is fixed at checkout either way, and a piece built for a date that was booked in advance is not competing for bench space with everything else going out that afternoon.

Addresses that need extra notes

Bayhealth Medical Center takes flowers for patients, and Dover Behavioral Health System does not accept them on every unit, so a call ahead is sensible for the second. Care homes including Bay Terrace Rehabilitation and Health Center, Complete Care at Silver Lake and Westminster Village Health all have reception desks that will sign for an arrangement if the resident's full name is on it. Base housing and gated developments are the other case worth flagging: put the gate name or the visitor procedure in the notes, because a driver who cannot get through the gate cannot leave flowers at it. Dover Base Housing addresses in particular have their own access rules, and it is worth checking what a visitor needs before the order goes in rather than after.

Apartment blocks and retirement communities produce the same problem in a smaller form. A building number without a unit number leaves a driver in front of a bank of doors, and a mobile number for the recipient held on the order is the quickest way past that. None of that detail appears on the card message, which reaches the recipient exactly as it was written.

Towns beyond the county seat

ZIP codes here run 19901, 19902, 19904, 19905 and 19906 around the seat, then out to 19934, 19938, 19943, 19952, 19962 and 19977 across the rest of Kent County, DE. Most of the outlying towns are small enough that a florist covering one is covering several, which is an argument for ordering earlier in the day rather than later. Beyond the county line the neighboring pages are New Castle County, DE to the north, Sussex County, DE to the south and Caroline County, MD across the western state line, while flower delivery in Delaware lists everywhere else covered in the state.
