Yates County, NY Flowers, Delivered

Pick The Vase Or The Bowl

The first decision is not the flower, it is the container, and the room the arrangement is going into settles it. A bedside at Penn Yan Manor Nursing Home has a tray and a windowsill and nothing else, so a low bowl earns its place there. A dining table in Dundee or Rushville can hold something tall enough to be seen from the doorway.

Flower types may be substituted for whatever the florist genuinely has that morning, and the type of arrangement does not move with them: the size, the shape and the value of the piece all stay where the order put them. The catalog lists each design at the size it is actually built to, and in a county of 24,387 people that number is easier to check than a phone call is.

Four Towns Around Penn Yan

Yates County, New York has four towns with pages of their own: Penn Yan holds the seat and all three named care addresses, Dundee sits south of it, Keuka Park is the smallest of the set, and Rushville straddles the northern line.

Four ZIP codes cover the whole of it, 14478, 14527, 14544 and 14837, which is a small enough set that a sender who knows the ZIP already knows the town. That is unusual on a page of this kind, and it is the reason this one can be short: there is no long list to wade through before the useful part starts.

The Address, Not The Town Name

What a florist needs is a street and a building, not a village. Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital of Yates and its extended care unit both take flowers at a desk, and both want a patient name spelled the way the admissions record spells it. A workplace order needs a department written in as well, because 14527 covers more than one door.

Rural addresses in Yates County, NY sometimes carry a route number rather than a house number, and that is fine as long as the order says so plainly. Once the arrangement is finished a photo of it is sent to whoever paid for it, at no extra charge, which settles the question of whether the right porch got the flowers without anybody having to ring and ask.

1 PM Eastern, Measured In Penn Yan

An order placed before 1 PM Eastern time reaches a Yates County address the same business day, and the clock that decides it is the recipient’s, so a sender two zones west has until eleven in the morning and a sender on another continent has lost the day before lunch.

Flower deliveries run Monday through Saturday to all four Yates towns, Sunday delivery is not available in 14478 or anywhere else in the county, and the window on the working days is between 9 AM and 7 PM. A time inside it can be requested rather than guaranteed, and an order into 14837 that goes wrong has three days to be raised.

Three counties border this one and each keeps a page of its own. Ontario County, NY lies to the north, Steuben County, NY is the southern edge, and Schuyler County, NY takes over to the east. The New York county listing holds all of them together.
